CARRIE HUGHES
for Wakulla County Commission District 4
Protect the past. Plan the future.
Republican Carrie Hughes is running for Wakulla County Commission to bring thoughtful leadership, responsible planning, and fiscal accountability to our community. With more than 30 years of experience in public service and over two decades living in Wakulla County, Carrie understands the importance of making decisions that protect what makes our county special while preparing responsibly for the future.

Vision & Priorities for Wakulla
Wakulla County is a special place defined by its natural beauty, strong community values, and small-town character. Carrie’s vision for Wakulla is a future where growth is planned responsibly, infrastructure keeps pace with development, and the character of our community is protected.

Responsible Smart Growth
Wakulla is growing, and we will continue to grow. But growth should be planned, balanced, and supported by the infrastructure needed to serve it.

Carrie is not against growth. She's against unchecked growth that puts more pressure on our roads, schools, water, sewer, drainage, emergency services, and quality of life without a clear plan to keep up.

For years, many residents have felt like growth decisions were made before citizens had a real voice. Comprehensive Plan changes and development approvals should not be treated like automatic decisions. They should be carefully reviewed for consistency, compatibility, infrastructure capacity, and long-term impact on the community.

Wakulla’s rural character is one of the reasons so many of us chose to live here. Protecting that character does not mean closing the door on opportunity. It means making sure new development fits Wakulla, respects existing neighborhoods, and doesn't leave taxpayers carrying the burden of poor planning.

Preserving Natural Beauty
Once proudly known as a Sportsman's Paradise, Wakulla's river, springs, coast, and wildlife are part of our identity and must be protected for our future generations. e must protect our natural resources and preserve the character that makes Wakulla such a special place to live.

Wakulla’s natural beauty is a big part of why so many of us love calling this place home. Our rivers, springs, forests, coastlines, and open spaces are part of our way of life.

As we grow, we have to be thoughtful about protecting the land and water that make Wakulla unique. That means planning carefully, paying attention to drainage and water quality, and making decisions that look beyond today.

Preserving our natural resources is not about stopping progress. It's about making sure progress does not come at the cost of the very things that make people want to live here in the first place.
Wakulla is worth protecting for our families, our future, and the generations who will call it home after us.

Fiscal Responsibility
Wakulla families have to live within a budget, and county government should take that responsibility seriously too.

Carrie believes taxpayers deserve to know how their money is being spent, why decisions are being made, and whether those decisions truly serve the long-term needs of our community.

Fiscal responsibility does not mean solely cutting services people rely on. It means planning carefully, asking hard questions, looking for better options, and making sure we're using public dollars wisely.

As Wakulla grows, we need honest conversations about costs, infrastructure, revenue, and priorities. Residents should feel informed, included, and confident that decisions are being made in the best interest of the county.

To Carrie, transparency is not just posting information. It's making sure citizens can understand it, follow the process, and have a real voice before major decisions are made.

Wakulla County deserves careful stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Carrie supports responsible budgeting, transparency, and making sure county spending reflects the needs and priorities of our community.

Proven Leadership
Carrie’s decades of experience in public service have given her a strong understanding of how government decisions affect communities. Through her work in state and local government, she has seen firsthand how planning, infrastructure, and responsible decision-making play a critical role in shaping the future of growing communities.
Carrie's approach is simple: review spending, protect essential services, make growth pay a fair share of its impact, pursue outside funding, and plan responsibly before problems become more expensive. Wakulla County deserves leadership that focuses on long-term planning, transparency, and making decisions that lead Wakulla toward a future where growth and preservation go hand in hand. As your candidate for District 4, she is committed to transparent governance, fiscal responsibility, and enhancing the quality of life for every resident.Â

Carrie has also been actively involved in local community efforts, supporting animal welfare initiatives through Wakulla Animal Group (WAG) since its inception. She believes strong communities are built through service, cooperation, and a shared commitment to improving the quality of life for residents.
